How many shots do you think im losing by having non-fitted clubs?

Ive been playing for about a year. Score around 100-110 on a long par 70 champ course.

The course has been neglected due to water restrictions and the fairways are not as crisp as the ones you see on the pga tour.

Do you think its possible that im gaining atleast 10 shots because of the bad lies on the fairway and my non-fitted clubs?

What do you think? The fairways are rock hard.

  1. well if your playing on a long par 70 the slope is probably 130 or harder. if your  shooting 110 your likely just to score at least 10 more strokes on that course regardless of your clubs than you would elsewhere. it depends on how long it really is. if its over 7000  its hard.

  2. I think that you asked a question that will be hard to answer.  I have played custom made clubs and shot well.  I have played store bought clubs and didn't tweek them a bit, and I have played fit clubs by Wilson and shot the same scores with them as I did with all of my other clubs.

My comment will end here.  "Anything that is built to fit you personally, SHOULD give you a better game"....

  3. the lie you describe are for punch shots  a full swing is hit and hope . hard fairways non stick greens ball slightly back so it can be picked , the vast majority of players are playing with clubs that do no fit , if the fairways are hard toss your driver go with three wood ,shots out off rough are unpredictable . take a club fitting on a swing mointor your clubs will need a flatter lie to play under these conditions lose 34 iron hy bird replaces both . club adjustments . never use your sand wege from these fairways to much bounce 3 wood ogg tee  10 shots is not far off . onlt get lower . find lob wege with no more than 6 degreess bounce that will help . a course playing this conditions require pure contact  club fitting will help . i think the toe of your club is off the ground at adress simple correction . golf shop can perform

  4. Once I had my clubs customed fitted I dropped seven strokes from my game

  5. Probably, yes, the course that I was at last year was a terrible, beat up course, and I never really shot that great. I have since moved to a nicer well-maintained course, and my game has improved a lot. Now that I have grass on the fairways, I shoot a whole lot better. Also, i used to have a really small pair of clubs that I used, and i always has to slouch over to swing. The clubs affected my swing a lot. I have since gotten new clubs, and seen a professional to improve my swing, and it turns out that the slouching had impaired my swing. Hope this helps.

  6. Nobody can give you an exact answer on how many shots you are losing due to your clubs, but you are more likely to be giving up strokes than not. The further you are from 'average' (i.e., average height, average swing speed, average length arms, etc) the more your clubs are likely hindering you.

One of the biggest problems with ill-fitted clubs is not the strokes you will immediately obtain by getting fitted clubs, but your ability to improve as a player. If you clubs are not properly fit, they could be causing a slice, a hook, too high or too low of a ball flight. And guess what: a bad swing can cause all of those things as well. The problem is you have no idea if your clubs or your swing are causing these problems in your game. If you have fitted clubs, you will likely see more consistent results, even if that means you're consistently slicing it 30 yards off target. Since you can now isolate the problem, you can begin to fix it and become a better golfer faster.

And don't listen to people telling you that fitted clubs are only for good players. Fitted clubs are MORE important for high handicap players. A bad player with poorly fitted clubs will be learning to play to the clubs rather than make a good swing. They will never learn to make the best swing they can since the clubs are causing the ball to do weird things, and they will never be able to hit the ball as consistently as they would with fitted clubs.

  7. If you are a bad player then no clubs will help. The sales hype is just that - hype.

  8. I've broke 80 several time and there are some courses that I've never broke  100 on so a course can make a big difference. clubs it depends how far off of standard you are,it could make a huge or little difference

  9. you lose 4 shotrs per round

  10. The way you describe this course I presume that you are allowed a place? If so, you should be able find a better spot to place your ball. I would look at your clubs and suggest buying fitted clubs also your shot selection could be the problem. Like using more lofted clubs and allow for more roll on those hard fairways requires a pure ball strike. Salmonbe has some good tips. No disrespect, but looking at your score a lesson would not got astray as well ? It does sound like one needs a lot of imagination and skill to play your course at the present time good luck!

  11. Probably 6.2 shots a round.  I think you are losing shots because your brain is in the way.  Not all fairways are great and not all roughs are bad.  Just relax and go play the game.  Focus on the shot at hand and not the one you just took.  Have fun with it.

  12. well on hard pan courses if your clubs are game improvement type they have more bounce and will skip and cause alot of thin skulled shots adding strokes to your score clubs with more bounce are better for wet courses as they will not dig in to the wet turf(the  wider the bottom of  club  the more bounce the skinnier the bottom the less bounce)

and yes fitted clubs will help your score a little bit it but it won't turn you in to tiger

  13. The difference between a good golfer and a bad golfer are the bad shots. Everybody's good shots are good, but the question is really how bad are your bad shots. The next thing to examine is: are you hitting the proper shot. Even on a great course, you find potholes, creases, sprinkler heads, and old divots. You need to know how to hit the ball in each situation - i.e. - the shot you hit if your ball is  in the front of the divot is different than if it's nestled in the back of the divot.

What's this got to do with your question? -- stay with me.

Having fitted clubs will improve your game, no doubt. By how many strokes? I couldn't tell you. I say this because having fitted clubs will allow you to create and stay with a repeatable swing. Golf is a game of memory - MUSCLE memory. You have to groove your swing and make it repeatable. When you have this swing, you can augment it to suit each place you're playing - that is - making punch shots, flop shots, blasting, pick-and-pops, knockdowns, etc etc. They all have their benefit and use on different terrain, but the one thing they have in common is that they use the same base swing, just different ball position and degrees of power.

    Conclusion:

Having fitted equipment will help anyone to improve, but the amount of strokes they will help you take off is directly related to your ability on the course. ideally, you should be able to shoot about the same both at a well groomed country club, and a dive hackers course. It's all about experience and knowing your clubs and knowing that when you swing, X is going to happen. if the ground is hard, then X will happen with more roll, etc etc etc.

    Hope this helped... good shooting.

  14. Apart from the bad conditions affecting lay ect another factor is when you are playing on a lovely lush green course it makes you feel good and relaxes you, which might help your game.

As for the clubs, depends on the fit of your current clubs.  Fitted clubs will help but they are not magical or anything like that.

Ten shots?  Maybe a bit much, that's a bit like dropping a shot on each hole on the back nine.  Sounds easy in theory, but in practice, different story.

  15. unless the clubs are way too long for you or way to o short, it won't make a big difference. if they are a little bit long/short you'd only be losing 3-4 shots tops.

  16. At a scoring range of 100-110 it doesn't matter what clubs you use, or what ball you use. You stink, no offense. Stop trying to blame the clubs, practice, and get better. PRACTICE when your a 5 handicap, then worry about custom-fit clubs

  17. Vegas Matt nailed it.

It would be impossible for anyone to give  an answer, either exact or ball-park, as to how many strokes less you might realize with fitted clubs. You also have an additional factor with the golf course being a firm as a billiard table. Very difficult to play on. Your distance and accuracy are way off because the ball rolls and rolls. Isn't there a better course in the area that might be more enjoyable and more player-friendly so you can have a repeatable data base you can work with?
