  1. 10 small schoolers or guppies

  2. 7-8

  3. What sort of fish are you planning on keeping?

Have you had your bore water tested to see if it is suitable for fish?

Water from the tap needs to have water conditioner added to neutralise the chemicals in it.

  4. rowlfe has the best explaination.  just keep in mind that you will want to consider the size that the fish that you buy can potentially grow to and make sure that your tank size will accomodate them for a decent period of time.  so you might want to stick to the low end of the fish to water ratio and go with 1 inch of fish and let them mature til they need a larger tank.  or with proper consideration of the fishes potential maximum  size, you can keep a small amount of fish for a very long time without ever having to buy a larger tank down the road.  i prefer to stick with fish that don't get overly large and small numbers of fishes to keep things simple and keep my fish healthy and happy.  =)

  5. 1 to 2 inches of fish per gallon in a typical fresh water tank. For 16 gallons, that means 8 to 16 fish ranging from 1 to 2 inches long. If you have "hard" water, you need to treat the water to reduce the mineral content. It is the minerals being left behind when the water evaporates that causes the buildup you see. You also need to frequently change out some of the water by draining some and then refilling to avoid concentrating the minerals. When water evaporates, and you simply refill the tank, you concentrate the minerals which increases the rate the minerals deposit on the sides of the tank.
