The answer depends on the size of the can, the composition (aluminum, steel, etc.), if they are wet or dry, etc.  However, you can estimate the number of cans as follows:

One aluminum can weighs about 0.5 ounces.  Therefore, it takes about 32 cans to equal one pound.
