How many solid meals should my 6 month old daughter have per day?

She started solids at five months.

I started with one feed of rice cereal per day, and have now introduced a second meal of apple and rice cereal.

Should she be having three solid meals yet?

She has about four bottles of formula per day.

  1. As much as she wants!

So you don't have to "measure" how much she is eating why not just use the Baby Led Weaning method. Which is giving her table foods and letting her feed herself.

  2. Its really different with each child.  Use your good judgement.  If you think she is still hungry then give her another meal.  If you think she is being satisfied with what shes getting now then stick with it.  If you notice she is starting to want more then increase her food.  Good luck.

  3. My Ped. recommended my son have 3 solid meals at 6 months but I don't' think we actually made it to 3 solid meals until he was closer to 8 months or older. Babies should rely more on breast milk or formula up until 12 months.

  4. I started our son on one meal a day at 4 months, at 5 months he had 2 meals a day, then at 6 months he was having 3 meals a day...now at 11 months old he's having 3 meals a day and 2 small snacks a day. I asked our pedi about it and her words were..."you're the mom...you'll know when he's ready for another meal or not. Just trust yourself and go with the flow." Best of luck.

  5. Right now the two meals is fine, around 8-9 months she should be up to 3 meals a day.  The reason being that usually it is recommended to wait until 6 months to start the first so then you would gradually work up from there.  She should still be getting 24 oz of formula a day.
