the 8gb (you can get in more colours) 2,000

but it all depnds on the size and length of the song, and if you have other things like videos, pics, games, contacts and podcasts

Apple's specs say the 4 Gb can hold 1000 songs and the 8 Gb 2000.  It doesn't state what the average song length this is based on.
