How many songs should we choose??

Our reception will be about 4 hours. How many songs should we choose for our deejay to play? One hour will be taken up for dinner, and we will be playing light classical music. Also, is it really polite/necessary to have the first dance, the wedding party dance, the mother's dance, the father's dance and so on? I just think that with all of these special dances, our guests will hardly get the opportunity to dance. Aren't you bored out of your mind at receptions where everyone has to have a special dance? Can we just have our first dance and then have a dance with the moms, dads and bridal party and end it at that??

Yes I agree with you! We did our dance and the traditional mother-son and father-daughter. We just had the wedding party join in on the father-daughter dance.

-songs are on average 3 minutes and for 4 hours thats about 80 songs.  20 for dinner misuc and another 60 or so for dancing.

Also, is it really polite/necessary to have the first dance, the wedding party dance, the mother's dance, the father's dance and so on? I just think that with all of these special dances, our guests will hardly get the opportunity to dance.

-You can do or skip whatever dances you like or a minute or so into each invite the guests to join

So the DJ would be playing music, besides dinner music, for 3 hours, right? So that's about 20 songs an hour, so I'd pick 60 songs. That's probably a little too much, but better to have too many than not enough.

The dances are up to you. You could have the father's dance and mother's dance at the same time to cut one 1 of the songs. Or include the bridal party as well if you like.
