how many square yards of canvas will be required to make a conical tent 15ft. high and 18ft. in diameter, if 10 percent of the material is wasted?

the surface area of a cone is pi*r*S

where s is the square root of height+radius

therefore s = 17.5 (roughly)

r is 9 feet (dia/2)

calculate it and you will get 494.55 feet.

now since 10% of the material is wasted, what was left of the original maerial is only 90% or 0.9 x original material

therefore original material = 494.55/09

which equals 550 (roughly)

and this is in Square feet, hence converting it into square yards you will need 61.11 sqyare yards of canvas
