  1. There are 204 squares on a chess board.  And there are 1296 rectangles on a chess board.  There is a formula for such problems.  Have a look at this link.

  2. 64 (8*8=64).

  3. If you are looking for a simple answer, then each side of a chess board is eight single squares long, therefore there are 8x8=64 squares.

However, it is possible to count squares of different sizes on the board by using varying amounts of single squares.

    That said, there are:

1 square of 8x8 single squares (i.e. the board)

4 squares of 7x7 single squares

9 squares of 6x6 single squares

16 squares of 5x5 single squares

25 squares of 4x4 single squares

36 squares of 3x3 single squares

49 squares of 2x2 single squares

... and the 64 single squares themselves.

That brings the total to 204.

  4. 64

  5. 64, count them

  6. 204.

  7. Hi,

The 'western' chessboard has 8x8 = 64 squares/cells.  The Chinese chess board is is 9x10 = 90 squares/cells.  Shogi uses 7x7 = 49, 9x9 = 81 and larger boards.  You may like to visit my web page - link below?  PRINT out a copy of any orthodox chess board in the world - free!  I hope this is helpful for you.
