  1. There are about 24 time zones each about an hour apart from eachother...I hope this helps!

  2. What do you mean by "standard" time zones? There are exactly 24, one for each hour in the day. They exist simply as a convenience for people. Time zones make no difference for things like navigation purposes to provide fixing a position, as all you need is just local time by the sun as related to a reference point in Greenwich, England, and all you need for that, is an accurate timepiece. Later it became a useful thing for commerce when we achieved rapid communications through telegraph and telephone . By standardizing the day into 24 hours and separating each time zone, we made it possible to arrange for things like a conference call between people all over the world, so they could know what time it was locally at some other remote location so as to coordinate the call. It became even more useful when radio came along so you could arrange a time so you would know when to listen. So, time zones are simply a convenience for us to coordinate how we communicate with one another and are not required for any other purpose. There are some special time zones which shift only half an hour, and have a local time on the clock half an hour between the time zones east and west of where they are, because they are located near to a boundary between time zones and for one reason or another, want the time on the clock to be closer to the time you expect to see by the sun's position in the sky. The only place where the time by the sun matches the time shown on the clock is at the centerline north-south within each defined time zone.

  3. How many hours are in a day.

  4. There are 24 standard time zones in the world, each 1 hr apart, also don't forget the International Dateline that passes between the Siberian Strait, places to the East are one day behind of those to the West of this line, (Japan 1 day ahead of US).

Also, some crazy places shift their official time by just 30 minutes (Venezuela and few others).

The continuous US has 4 time zones.

  5. The answer of 24 is basically correct, but if you look at a Time Zone map, you will see several locations that adjust by 15 or 30 minutes instead of the normal 1 hour increments.  This is especially true for isolated islands in the southern hemisphere.

  6. 24

  7. There are 24 Standard Time Zones.

These are defined so that relatively large areas can have the same time instead of different local solar times.  The zones are arranged with all places within one half hour of local solar time.

Time zones are actually irregular to accommodate practical or political purposes.

Several countries use time zones which are unlike the standard time zones.

For example, the country of  India would be separated into two time zones but has decided to use one large time zone half an hour between the standard time zones.

China spans an area covering five time zones, but the entire country uses one time zone.
