How many steam loco's are there in preservation in the UK?

  3. I don't know the exact number but it's around a thousand. A large percentage are in working order but some are in process of restoration.

  6. Too many to count individually or per preserved placement (e.g. railway of museum) because most preserved engines are owned either by the state (i.e. NRM), societies (E.g. Great Western Society), but all the rest are privately owned.

    Although i don't know the total number, the GWR has the most preserved, followed by the LNER, LMS then SR.
