  1. well if the fence is man made and the driving range is not out of bounds then its a free lift no closer to the hole  if the driving range is OOB then you have to replay from original position and add a stroke

  2. If the fence is out of bounds, you must return to where you last hit from and hit again - plus a stroke penalty.  If the fence is in play, then you could try to hit it out of the fence (no penalty), or more likely take an unplayable lie - one stroke.

  3. This can be tricky depending on the course rules.  Also, I don't know what you mean by landing "on" a double fence.  Usually, a driving range that is adjacent to a fairway is considered out of bounds, because they don't want golfers playing shots from the driving range.  A ball is not out considered out of bounds unless it lies entirely out of bounds.  The fence/markers are not considered out of bounds, but they are alsop not considered obstructions according to USGA definitions, so you can't take a free drop.  Here's what you can do.

Take an unplayable lie and drop two club lengths away from the obstruction; play the shot again from where you last played it; or drop it anywhere on a straight line directly away from the hole.  Each choice has a penalty of one stroke.

Depending if you are right or left handed, you can play the shot with no penalty.

  4. Typically Ranges on a course are Out of Bounds..this would include a one shot penaty as well as having to return to the original spot...Meaning Stroke plus distance, unlike a hazard where you get the stroke penalty but are not required to return to the original spot.

If your are up against a fence, in bounds...I believe you don't get a stroke penalty, you get relief from the fence in the form of two club lengths, no closer to the hole and make a drop. Same as if you wre sitting on the cart path....However you only get releif if the fence will hamper your stance, ie your are a lefthanded golfer up against a fence on the rightside...A righty wouldnot because he can stand without the fence hampering his stance....Good Question though...As you noticed I said " I think" a lot......Now I will have to check that......

  5. First of all the question has to be " Was the ball on the driving range considered out of bounds ?" At most courses that would be the case.If so, a rehit must be played from the teeing ground and the person would be hitting his 3rd shot. I know of no instance where the player can play from the spot near where the ball was retrieved without penalty nor of an instance allowing such play even by local rule.
