  1. Absolutely none.  To accomodate a school, you'd need at least 10 gallons (and that's for the smaller species).  In a 2 gallon tank, you'd be MUCH better off with some freshwater shrimp (Ghost, Red Cherry, Crystal Red, etc.).

EDIT: The concept of "one inch of fish per gallon of water" is about as flawed as you can get.  It takes into account 2 aspects of the EXTREMELY complex art (NOT equation) that is stocking a tank.  It fails to acknowledge waste production, surface area, activity, schooling needs, swimming level, pH, temperature, girth, aggression, decor, maintenance, filtration, and MANY more that I haven't thought of yet.

  2. NONE...tetras need to be in school of 5 or more....and they love to shoal and swim..so a school of 5 tetras realy need a minimum of 10 gallon long tank..not tall....not even a betta should be kept in just 2 gallon bowl..how will tetras survive??

  3. none as tetras are tropical fish and they need a filter and a heater so none

  4. How many children can you keep locked in a closet? None and that is the number of tetras that will fit in a 2 gallon tank. Beside having to have "the one inch of water per gallon of fish" which is not right, some fish including tetras like neon and cardinal tetras need at least a twenty gallon tank to swim in to be comfortable.

  5. One or two, depending on size. They are adaptable and can deal with not being in a large group.

  6. Zero. The rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon. Since neon tetras are an inch long that tank is only big enough for 2. However, tetras need to be kept in groups of at least 6, so your tank isn't big enough. The only fish that would really be happy in 2 gallons is a betta.

edit: Okay, Soup n**i, I'll bite. I said 1 inch per gallon is just a "rule of thumb." I know there are a lot of other considerations, but for fish the size of tetras it's usually about right. Especially for a guy who is obviously a beginner. We gave pretty much the same advice, so why the thumbs down?

  7. 2

  8. about 2 but i woulnt reconmend it because tetras need to live in groups of 5 or more in a well planted tank.

  9. Max 2. It also depends on the type. Are you thinking neon tetra? They tend to stay small, so that would work. If you want to get a tetra that grows to 6" it would grow too large for the tank.

For a 2g, you might want to consider a dwarf gourami, paradise fish, or betta. Something that would be happy living alone and doesn't exceed 2-1/2" in size.

If you want more fish, try getting a larger tank. General rule for a freshwater tank is no more than 1" of fish per gallon of water.
