  1. A wrist to finger tip measurement is used to determine the proper grip size.  The right grip size increases your ability to close the clubface and has some impact on club head speed.  There are other measurements that a club fitter will take to establish a start point in the fitting session.  Wrist to finger tips is just one of them.

  2. This is one of the measurements made by most club fitters. It is used only to measure typical club length (heal to top of grip). It is accurate because, when you think about it, the distance from the hands to the ground is a critical measurement.

I would temper this by adding that this is the best measurement for irons, but not necessarily for drivers. Driver lengths have continued to increase, allowing for longer (but less accurate) drives.

This measurement should obviously not be used to determine loft or lie.

In the end, nothing beats a professional fitting where various shaft flexes, lengths, etc. can be tested.

  3. It is the ONLY way to measure for club length.
