How many time zones used to be in China, and how many are there now?

I am doing the Social Studies extra credit, and we are studying China. So my question is, how many time zones used to be in China, and how many are there now? Thank you very much!

Currently, the Communist regime in Peking insists that all clocks in China be set to Peking Time.  This produces bizarre effects in the country's far west, where on winter mornings the sun does not rise until almost 11 a.m.

The Republic of China government on Taiwan, however, recognizes five time zones:

- Central Standard Time, which is Peking time;

- Changpai Time, that is, Manchuria time, 1/2 hour AHEAD of Peking;

- Kansu-Szechuan Time, an hour behind Peking;

- Sinkiang-Tibet Time, two hours behind Peking; and  

- Kunlun Time, in the far west, 2 1/2 hours behind, or one-half hour ahead of Pakistan time.

Before the Communists seized power in 1949, China had its 5 time zones for the four years between 1945 and 1949.  Before 1945 there were only four time zones, because Manchuria was a theoretically independent country under Japanese  protection, while Taiwan was then a Japanese territory.  

Note, by the way, that the Republic of China does not recognize the independence of Mongolia.  Therefore, it officially regards Mongolia as spreading across three time

zones.

there has always been 1 time zone in China.  It is 13 hours currently in front of Eastern Standard Time.

In terms of area, China is the largest country with only one time zone (UTC+8).

When it is 12:00 PM in London, It is 8:00 PM in China.

Russia, on the other hand , has 11 time zones.

There is only one time zone in China. Times zones are calculate from the Prime meridian in Greenwich.
