  1. Yorkies should only be bathed once a month, or when dirty.. at most.  Overbathing will dry out the skin and coat.

You take it to the groomer about every 6 weeks or so, depending on if you want to keep it in a short clip or if you want a longer cut.

  2. Once a month grooming (where they give bath, brush, clean ears, clip nails, etc.) should be enough.  However, you will need/want to brush the dog at home on a more regular basis.

  3. They shouldn't be bathed weekly as that will dry out their skin.  Unless they get into something stinky the once a month grooming would be enough bathing.

  4. we bathe ours once a week because of the type of hair and what we did was scheduled an appointment to the groomers and depending on what you want done to the dog the groomer will say when to come back

but you should brush them at least once a day otherwise you'll have one funny looking yorkie

  5. Since you are obviously new to the Yorkie (and perhaps dogs in general), let me try to help. I am a professional groomer. You have seen many people tell you to not bathe too often. THEY ARE CORRECT. Unless you Yorkie smells or rolls in mud, etc, etc a bath should not be performed more than one a month. Personally, I wouild say every 2 months...at the time of grooming. Regular grooming every 2 months is about standard for the breed. If you let it go longer than that, chances are he will get matted and the groomer will have to shave it all off. If you do you homework and brush him out properly every day, you can go longer between groomings. Ask your groomer to show you the proper method of brushing...areas to be concentrated on...rear end, tummy, armpits....these matt most easily....the whole coat will but those are the most neglected areas in my experience. If you have a hard time brushing your dog, I can send you some tips. Also, if you cannot keep him matt free, you will need to go to the groomer sooner than the 8 weeks I mentioned.

If you wish to bath your dog monthly, use a puppy shampoo or an oatmeal shampoo or a hypo-allergenic shampoo. I would actually mix the shampoo 1 part shampoo with 3 parts water....it will rinse out more easily. If you don't properly rinse it will lead to skin irritations and dryness.

Hope this helped somewhat. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any question (like what kind of tools you need to keep the Yorkie properly brushed/combed out).

    Good luck....love your new pet!

  6. My vet says to bathe a dog no more than once a month unless of course they get into something and needs to be bathed. Bathing too frequently can cause skin problems.

Take him to the groomer when his hair get too long and/or it is matted.  Of course, you should brush him yourself a few times every week at home.

  7. They really shouldn't be bathed more than once a month, other wise it will dry out their skin.  Grooming depends on how long you want to keep the coat, and how often and much you want to brush at home.  Any where form every two weeks (no bath just a brush out) to 8 weeks.  The longer you want to keep the coat, the closer the visits will be.

  8. no more than once a week..over bathing can lead to itchy dried skin. take him to the groomers probably ever two weeks..or if you brush him regular once a month

  9. no dog should be bathed more than every 4-6 wks.  it dries out their coat and skin.

  10. i have a yorkshire terrier.

we give him a bath every 4-5 weeks.

we take him to the groomers whenever his hair get too

long a knotted.. usually every 3ish months.

we keep his hair really short though. some people

grow their yorkies hair out so its dragging on th floor.

    good luck!

  11. Most people have their Yorkies groomed every 6 weeks. In between groomings, you need to keep the dog combed, and a bath in between with a mild oatmeal shampoo is OK,or you can just go over the dog with baby wipes. But don't bathe the dog every week or you will dry out it's skin and coat.

  12. You shouldn't bathe your dog weekly, you shouldn't do it more than every 6 to 8 weeks, because it'll strip their natural oils and can cause skin irritation.  Also grooming would normally be done every 6 to 8 weeks, so I'd just let the groomer do the bathing.  Unless of course the pup rolls in something smelly or something like that where they would need a bath sooner than that.  That's what I do with my shih tzu.  I get him groomed every 6 weeks and only deal with bathing him at home if he's gotten in a big mud puddle or rolled in something nasty.

  13. One a month on bathing and every two-three months for a professional grooming.

  14. You should only have to groom your dog once a month, which includes bathing.  Too many baths will strip the natural oils from their fur causing them to develop skin problems.
