  1. 5 usually 6 at the most although some people ride their horse up to eight times but it all depends on how the horse is doing and other factors

  2. the higher class they are,the less often they run.a derby winner for example may run in 1 or 2 preps before the derby, then probably 3 times max after.a selling plater(the lowest class of race) can easily have 30 runs a season.there are more opportunities for lower class horses to race whilst higher class types have there season planned out more carefully, plus higher class horses ,because they put more effort into it ,they tend to need longer to recover from there exertions.also distance is a factor, there are loads of sprints races compared to mile races,in turn more milers then middle distance and more middle distance than extended disatnce runners

  3. cheap claimers....24

    allowance runners.....12

    stakes runners.....6

    superstars like...curlin........4

  4. depends on the rider some use it maybe  3 or 4 times a year some race them all the time depends on their training method.

  5. It depends on the individual horse, trainers and owners.  Some horses will race every week and sometimes twice weekly.  Other horses may only be seen 3 or 4 times during the flat or national hunt season.  As with humans, some horses take their racing better than others.  I don't think there is such a thing as a 'typical' racehorse.

  6. As has been said, it really varies from horse to horse.  The more valuable a horse the less frequently it tends to run.

Also some horses thrive on running regularly whereas others are more fragile and tend to need a longer rest break between their races.

I've heard of horses running 30+ times a season, but then you look at a horse like Best Mate: at the peak of his career he only ran 3-4 times a year at the very most.
