How many times can I re-record a Hi-8 video tape?

I am looking into purchasing Hi-8 tapes for a camcorder I just bought (used), and am wondering how many I need to buy. I am planning on importing the footage into my computer and don't need to keep the footage once it's on my laptop. I found 4 tapes online for $16 and 1 for $5.25. The camera came with one. Do I need four additional tapes, or am I alright with one or 2?

How many times can I re-record over the tape without a loss of quality?
