  1. If a dog requires a c section they should be spayed at the same time. I think it's terrible that some breeders continue to breed from a dog that has difficulty giving birth. If they've had 1 c section chances are they'll need it the next time too.

  2. If I ever had a b*tch who needed a second C section she would be spayed at the same time.  I don't see much point in having a difficult whelper be an important part of my breeding programme.  Why create a line of difficult whelpers?

Yes, some breeds do require a section nearly every time but I don't know of any breeders who breed those girls more than twice.

ETA:  shalakoaussies - I agree that 1 C section does not necessarily eliminate a b*tch, but a second one should.  I had a girl who had a 1 puppy litter.  The puppy was HUGE and she simply couldn't pass it.  She went on to have a perfectly normal litter 18 months later.

  3. I have Chihuahuas and depending on the reason she requires a c-section, I will either have her spayed right away or let her have one more litter.  I discuss the situation with the vet and make my decision based on our shared info.  If not spayed, I will breed her to a different male.  If she has to have a 2nd c-section, she is automatically spayed.  I think putting my little girls through this twice is more than enough.  Fortunately I very seldom have to make this decision.  Most free whelp with no complications, or a little assistance on my part.

  4. In theory, I agree. Dogs who can't whelp naturally or who have been physically altered so that they can no longer breed or whelp naturally are problematic and probably should not be contributing to the gene pool. However, there are legitimate reasons when normally constructed females may require a C-Section such as uterine inertia or a stuck pup and those cases, it is fine to breed again.

  5. ONE then have her spayed.

do not know about bulldogs so can not comment.

  6. A malpresentation can happen in any breed to any *****. A singleton pup can be so large that the dam can't whelp naturally. Under those circumstances, having another litter is justified. If the ***** herself has a problem whelping naturally because of her conformation she she never be mated in the first place.
