How many times can i divide a piece of land up on second life?

ok so if i own a piece of land size 65,536 or an entire region can i then divide it up into more land of size 512

I am not sure I understand your question. If you have 65,536 square units of land. and you want to divide it into plots that are 512 square units, by division it should be possible to get 128 plots.

That would be the maximum. Keep in mind depending on the shape of the original plot of land and the need to have access to all the plots one might need to put in roads, which could reduce the number of plots significantly.
