  1. I had a 1985 Volvo 240 sedan. It had 149,500 when I bought it in June of 2000 and 275,000 when I traded it in 2006.

It needed front brake pads about every 15,000 miles...car was hard on pads.

    Other than that...

200,000 miles: Replace motor mounts, timing belt

    250,000 miles: Replace carrier bearing.

275,000 miles: Needed brake system overhaul. Been needing new rotors/calipers. Enginge only needed valve adjustment. Compression checked, 195psi. Not burning oil so no overhaul needed. Needed either auto tranny flush or rebuild (was just starting to slip a little bit). State inspection coming up in about 3 weeks. No money and couldn't afford to be off from work so I traded the car...didn't want to though.

  2. Average cars are those you see going to and fro every day- they don't break down. It's the 'lemons' and the 'hacks' and the 'new fangled garbage' that breaks down. Think, average cars never break down.

  3. my car hasnt ever broken down in 128,000 miles, I keep it maintained according to factory recommendations, after 130K miles it has none though, guess they figure thats when the car is threw with
