  1. Definately every few months. If you oil your bat every month then you will be over oiling the wood fibres which can damage them. Thus you should oil and lightly sand every few months and also make sure that you do not store the bat near a heater or in sunlight as this will quickly dry the wood fibres which will result in damage.

    Furthermore if you do not use the bat regulary (ie. if you don't use it during the off season) then there is no real need to oil the bat as much if you store it correctly.
