recently and it contradicted all I've read about tazers, my understanding was that there were no amps, only volts used. this guy shouldn't have died even from 12 Zaps right? unless of course he had some kind of extreme health issue like his heart.

  1. Electricity can easily stop a heart or organ.

The lower the voltage the less chance, but there is always that possibility.

  2. I don't know, but a police tasered someone in my area twice and he died. He was only like 18 or 19.

  3. In the news paper today in LA a man died from being tazed so yes  you can die from being tazed.

  4. that happened in Pittsburgh, & I live very close to Pittsburgh, it's been all over the news. I guess it depends also on where you get tazed!!!!

  5. I had the full tazing two times in a row. I was not in the best of health, diabetic with some minor heart problems, yet I had no compunction in volunteering for the two 5 second bursts.

Almost every case were there has been a death it is not from the tazing, even with a heart condition. It is usually from the fact the the person being tazed was already in what is called Excited Delirium. These people are virtually impossible to control without a device like a tazer or choking them out. Once subdued by whatever means or they just stop their actions for a few moments these same people tend to go into full body shock. This is when they die.  Many ME's have missed this even before tazers and made the deaths homicides since the individual usually has multiple injuries, from self inflicted to attempts to subdue by family and then police.

I saw the records(police tazers make downloadable computer records of the action) were one guy was tazed at the same time by 4 different tazers. He still fought and was fine. Another were a guy was tazed for 15 minutes straight with no after affects.

Tazers have high voltage and micro amperage.

  6. I'd say the guy had some health issues thats more than likely what got him but I don't know that much about the tazzer guns. I try to afford getting in trouble..lol

  8. It is true that it is the ampherage that kills, and as little as 100 mA is sufficient to stop a heart.  However, most of the tasers deliver only about 2.1 mA's so it is highly unlikely that there would be sufficient electrical current to kill someone by a properly functioning taser in the hands of a trained person being used on a healthy person.

The problem is, is most of the people that are hit by the taser are either 1, not healthy, or are on some sort of substance such as: alcohol or drugs.  People die from overdoses of alcohol and other substances on a regular basis.  Add to it the stress of being arrested, and tazed it could likely cause someone to experience some sort of cardiac arrest.

The current going thought is that those that die after being arrested and tasered, die from excited delirium, which appears to be an overdose of adrenaline which stops the heart.  And that in nearly ALL of the cases in which someone died after a taser event, they were either intoxicated or on some sort of drug.

Although it is sad when someone dies, the taser does present an option to police.  In many situations, without a taser, police would have no other option to employ other than a firearm.  And shooting the suspect would be much more likely to kill the person versus using the taser.  And no matter what lay people may think, a cop cannot shoot to wound.

Because an arm or leg is a much smaller target than the chest and if the cop misses and shoots an innocent bystander behind the suspect ... then it would be h**l to pay.  And people DO die from gunshot wounds to their arms and legs.

Whether tasering a person 12 or 19 times is reasonable, that I don't know.  But I can tell you it is not reasonable for a person to fight with the police that are making a lawful arrest and not expect to get hurt.

If you did not fight with the police, police would not have to use a taser.  Don't fight witht he cops, you won't get tased.  I don't know why this is so difficult for people to understand.

True, but alcohol and drug use is not a defense to crime.  If I was victimized, I wouldn't want the cops to not arrest because the guy drank a case of bud light and is passed out.  Or be told, he was too drunk and isn't responsible for raping your daughter.  Again, it all goes back to personal responsibility.  Don't do drugs that are illegal and alter your ability to think straight and then act like an ***.  Don't drink until you forget your name and act like an ***.

Although I do not believe there is a manufacturer defect or issue with tasers that cause people to die.  I would recommend you do not purchase the taser.  Not because I don't believe the item isn't valuable or useful.  Think about what the taser is.

The taser is a less than lethal weapon.  Meaning it isn't supposed to kill.  What if you used it, and the person you used it on died.  The guys family could try and sue and claim you used a less than lethal taser because you did not have LEGAL JUSTIFICATION to use a lethal weapon, yet you still killed him.  The family then wins and you lose your house.  At least with a police department there is a huge insurance policy that pays out and they have lots of attorneys to defend the case.  What do you have?

Although I respect your concern for your daughter's safety, you can take steps with a firearm that will protect your daughters safety.  The first step is to never keep it loaded.  Loaded magazine out of the weapon okay ... but a chambered round is asking for trouble.  Trigger locks and gun safes are also a very good option.  Trigger locks ultimately being the most affordable method.

At least in the event you have to use a gun to defend yourself or your family the crooks family can't use that arguement against you.  You can say, "I was in fear for my life."
