How many tons of carbon dioxide does an average American emit over the course of their lifetime?

Well that's a little tricky because our emissions are changing all the time.  As of 2004, the average American emitted over 20 tons of CO2 per year.  As of 1991, it was only 18.4 tons.  In the future hopefully it will decrease.

But if you guess an average American averages 19 tons of CO2 per year and lives about 75 years, that's 1425 tons of CO2 emitted over his lifetime.

Not something I''m worried about.  Maybe I'll hold my breath for a moment every so often.  And if I ride my bike, I won't leave any "carbon footprints" around.
