  1. About 1 ton. It is used to give the whale bouancy and to help with sound emmission whenit moved about. When man captured it, the oil was used for watch oil, transmission fluid, motor oil additives, cosmetics, glycerine and other applications.

  2. the oil is used for laterns and such and the eskimos use the blubber for eating

  3. up to 1 ton of oil

the oil was first used to fuel the industrial revolution. this means that its used for machine fuel in general.

  4. i think you're referring to the blubber. . its the fat of the whale

ambergris is an oil like substance they vomit up thats primarily  used in perfumes.  which is produced in various amounts by their digestive track.

  5. For the past 20 years, whale oil has not been used extensively.  Sperm oil was used as a lamp oil, machine lubricant, in wool processing, for perfume and other cosmetics.

A sperm whale's head could have as much as 2,000 gallons of oil, which is about 8 tons.

  6. Technically its not oil in the whales head but spermaceti.  Spermaceti is a wax like substance that is part of the diving organ.  There is about 3-4 tons in the whales head and the oil is extracted by crystallization (cooling it to temperatures below 0 Celsius).

The oil was used a great deal up until the 1986 International Whaling Commission moratorium (suspension) on commercial whaling.  The oil was used in lamps, as wax for candles, in cosmetics, in pharmaceutical compounds and much more.

    Hope that helps.  ^.^
