  1. You don't kill any trees per magazine.

Magazine comapnies could get hundreds or thousands of magazines from an adult tree.

  2. Paper comes from pine or fir trees about 95% of the time. These days less than half the paper on the market doesn't incorporate some sort of recycling element, but there is still "virgin" paper on the market, so the numbers below are pulled from that data.

One tree produces about 16.67 reams of paper or about 8,335 sheets of standard business paper. One ream (500 sheets) uses about 6% of a standard "paper" tree.

1 ton of coated, higher-end virgin magazine paper (used for magazines like Vogue and many others) uses a little more than 15 trees (15.36).  Using this measurement you will get about 1,100 magazines from 15 trees.

So one magazine consumes 1.3% of a tree.  Ta da!

  3. A standard sized tree, if there is such a thing (10-15m tall, 1-1.5 m circumference) can make enough pulp for 8000-13000 sheets of paper.

If your magazine has say, 100 sheets, that's 80-130 magazines per tree, or to directly answer your question, your magazine might take .0075-.0125 trees.

These are all approximations, but you get the idea.

  4. How about:

How many trees do you kill when you wipe your @ss?
