  1. I count 6,and under that another layer, also with six. Same ahead on a third level. Then they all connect and lead out into the backyard of the messiah, you know, where he likes to tan in the nude.

  2. Ir David, the part of ancient Jerusalem where King David reigned, is still being excavated. More archeological and geological finds are discovered here all the time. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/200...   Geologists concluded over a decade ago that the channels and shafts under Jerusalem were formed by natural forces. The City of David is built above a complex "karst system, a geological term for a region of irregular sinks, caverns and channels caused by ground water seeping through underground rock, mainly limestone and dolomite."  Many of the  tunnels were modified by humans.

Everything known about the City of David can be found at one of my favorite sites: http://www.cityofdavid.org.il/hp_eng.asp

Until you visit in person, take the virtual tour.

There are tunnels from different periods. For example, King Hezekiah's tunnel (that you mentioned) was predated by King Solomon's tunnel from the Gihon Spring  to Siloam's Pool. [Water was sometimes let out of tiny holes made for this purpose in order to irrigate the King's Garden in the Kidron Valley (II Kings 25:4).]  http://www.jewishmag.com/60mag/cityofdav...

Shanti is absolutely correct. Such tunnels were found in the 19th century, and one was discovered at the end of last August. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ycso_...

"These underground passages enabled many inhabitants of Jerusalem to exit the city and flee both south to Masada and, via Nahal Qidron and other wadis heading from Jerusalem eastward toward the Dead Sea . .  . ."

Shabbat Shalom to all from Jerusalem.
