  1. Hi... I have just started this gardening thing and am having to learn about what works well for me and what doesn't.  I'm interested in seeing some butterflies and hummingbirds.  So I'm trying to gear my garden towards attractings them to my garden.  This year, I've had the following in my garden areas:  Moss roses (my favorite), mexican petunia,  yellow portulaca, purple lantana, 3 hibiscus (red, pink, peach/pink), 2 europyhs (small yellow daisies), salvia greggis, purple fountain grass, orange lantana, yellow lantana, vincas--red, cosmos, neirembergia, cat's claw vine, corkscrew vine, morning glory vines, cape honeysuckle, blue plumbago, celosia, dianthus' or sweet wiliams, and several others that names are escaping me right now.

I tried some rudbeckias and each have died.  I thought they were drought and heat tolerant.... Apparently not in the hot sw.  I had a beautiful purple verbena that was just taking off and giving some pretty flowers when it died.  Over watering, I think.  I think I used someof that moisture control soil with that plant..... I don't recall...  I've planted some osteospurnum---purple daisies.  But haven't had any more blooms since they've gotten established in their new homes.  Maybe in the Spring.....  I did buy a potato bush plant from the clearance shelf and have seen it come back to life.  The first purple flower bloomed the other day.  I like the Balloon Komachi and have had them in the past.  They're beautiful plants.   I may add some of the peppers....for their color.  We (my grandbaby) never did get our sunflowers planted.... We will have to make that a priority come spring.

  5. within 70,000 sq. ft. of various gardens there are over 600 types of plants including many varieties of gaillardia, crepe myrtles, lantana, shasta daisy, butterfly bushes, ornamental grasses, salvias, coleus, dogwood, cannas, day lilies, iris, tulips, daffodils, hibiscus, verbena wild violet, rudbeckia, yarrrow, clematis, begonias, vinca, petunias, etc.

in the wild flower areas i maintain i just couldn't begin to count.

I have an idea of the number of the plants in the gardens because i wrote care/information sheets for each plant in the gardens beds last winter.
