    The United Kingdom produces more than 700 varieties of cheese.

    And France between 350 and 400, are according to the proverb, “a cheese per day of the year”.

    But French cheese is better ! :-p

    The most common type by sheer volume produced is probably fromage blanc (also called fromage frais or fromage maquée). It is a simple cheese made by adding rennet or starter culture to milk as with most cheese. but that is then the end of it. It is not processed further (although cream is sometimes beaten in to enrich it) and is never aged or cured as with most other cheese.
