  1. Aw, hun, there are no umpires!

They are called "officials". They are the people who call the disqualifications. There are usually about 8? Two on each side of the pool. Maybe nine, just for some extras.

And by the way, the timers aren't considered officials, so don't get confused with people giving you incorrect info.

  2. um, none, there r officials

  3. um they are not called umpires, but officials.

There are sometimes one per lane. Sometimes there are 1 per 2 lanes. if it is a championship meet there will be more officials.

  4. it is officials but there is usally three per lane........one timer one back up timer who cheeks for touches and turns and one on the other side looking for two hand touches,

  5. There aren't any umpires in a swimming race but there are officials that are like umpires and it depends how many people are available but there are generally no more than 6 at the max.

  6. None. Umpires are for baseball (I think so, anyway, I don't really know much about sports) However, swimming has officials.

  7. OK you got that they are officials, everybody agrees on that.

You have a starter who starts the race, and then on each side of the pool there are 2 one from each team if it is a dual meet (2 teams) unless it is a large pool like 10 lanes then there are more.  In a dual meet each team has either odd or even lanes giving officials from each team jurisdiction.  In addition to this there is a stroke and turn judge who deeks or dq's, or disqualifies swimmers for infractions

    So we have a starter

a stroke and turn judge (sometimes more than one if a big meet)

    and 4 line officials

    so 6 usually

you also have a head timer and a runner but they don't wear white
