How many volleyballs camps are too many?

My daughter wants to go to Volleyball camp, she is torn between two. She would like to do both (the camps are three weeks apart). Both camps are 5 days long. She is 14. She loves Volleyball. Should I allow her to do both of the camps and then do the local "workshop" before volleyball starts or should I make her pick and choose one.

She does have a job and will be paying for them herself. How much is too much?

  1. maybe she should pick one camp and the workshop.

  2. I am 14 years old, too! I attend 4-5 camps every summer across my area ( some overnight and some day) and they really help to improve my game. I also have so much fun and meet tons of new friends, alot of which I might end up playing against later on in my high school seasons and club seasons. Going to multiple, different camps also helps because then you learn some skills at each camp that the other camp may have overlooked. Also, some camps may choose to have individual players focus on their specific positions for the majority of the time, but other camps focus more on game play. This will help her to become a more well-rounded player. Especially if she loves volleyball, and is serious about playing for her school/club team, you should allow your daughter to do all of the camps. They are far enough apart that she will be totally recovered in between and she will still have time to be a kid and have a fun summer! Good luck :)

  3. no way that is too much!!! if she wants to you should let her do more!!

  4. If she is paying for them I would totally let her do it. I love volleyball and i know every volleyball camp helps you in some different way. On one team I learned all about form and structure. At another camp rotations and passing. Volleyball has so many different things to learn about and if you love it you should try to figure them all out and be the best you can be.

  5. Never would volleyball camps be related to "too many" :)

Volleyball is not so intensive as basketball, so if you have heard some kids going to consecutive weeks for basketball camps, you should feel more comfortable sending your daughter to v-ball camps that are three weeks apart.

So two camps plus one workshop is perfect. You really don't want to give her too much rest between two camps.

  6. I agree, you can't do too many camps. However, if I could make a suggestion. If the goal is to play volleyball in college, I would recommend her using camp money to play club volleyball. She would get better that way while being seen by coaches. Just an idea...
