I wanted to hook up a neon, but it doesnt have a plug, its just the positive and negative, so i was wondering, if i could just attach it to a plug and plug it into a standard house plug.

It says wires right into your 12 volt source.

  1. NO! don't do that standard house outlets run at about 120 volts that's 10x the rating for your neon

by "your 12 volt source" it means a car battery...

batteries are direct current and outlets are alternating current and that is just one more reason not to

  2. its a lot more than that

    in australia it's 240v

i would not recommend plugging it into the powerpoint it's very dangerous unless you know what your doing

    hope this helps

  3. you need a transformer to convert 120vac to 12vac. They are very common, and can be found at hardware and lighting stores

  4. I'm pretty sure that a house plug is 110 volt. 12 volt is for a car. DO NOT INSTALL YOUR NEON DIRECTLY INTO YOUR HOUSE WIRING!! It will ruin the light and may cause a fire in your house.

If you would like to use the neon in your house, you will need to find a cigarette lighter male end plug-in and wire your neon into that. Then buy a 110 to 12 volt converter box, which you can buy at your local electronics store (Radio Shack, etc.) Or, you can put a car battery in your room and wire up your neon to that.

  5. house hold electric is 120 volt but you can buy a converter that plugs into your 120 volt wall socket that converts to 12 volts so you can run your 12 volt light good luck. go down to a rodio shack and tell them they will help you...

  6. it all depends on who wired your house its either 240v or 120v but don't use that light that should be used for your car cuz its only 12v
