  1. Not many, Sony is notorious for "fudging" on their rated specs, so if all channels are driven the amp can't keep up so it's like 40 watts per channel.  With two channels driven then it more closly matches the rated specs, but hardly anybody hooks up two speakers to a multi channel amp.


  2. The claimed power rating is 150 watts per channel, though I cannot be certain if this is at 6 ohms or 8 or with what source and other information.

    The STR-GX10ES is stereo only and was a short-lived flagship model in the Sony Elevated Standard line in the late 1980s.  These things are built like tanks and, unlike regular Sony amplifiers and receivers, Sony ES receivers and amps actually have very powerful amplifier circuits and actually fairly honest ratings for most models, especially those on the upper end of the ES hierarchy.

    It is very likely that this particular model does live up to the 150 watt claim and, in proper operating order, will easily drive many different models of loudspeakers.
