how many watts should my heat mat be. I am going to use it for a leopard gecko

the floor of your enclosure where your gecko basks should be between 80-85 Fahrenheit during the day and 70-75 at night. If you put the mat under one end of the tank you will create a temperature gradient each end of the tank. To regulate the temperature attach a thermostat with a timer to the heat mat. This will not only regulate the temperature correctly but will also lower the temp automatically at night. You can buy thermostats on line from many shops.
