I just got a new pair of skates today. My lessons start September 6th. How many times will I have to go skating to break them in by then?

  1. Technically, you'll have to skate ten times (for at least 1 hour each session) to brake in your skates. I've been skating for about two years and just got new skates, mine are broken in already. The other thing is that it's okay to start lessons when your skates aren't totally broken in.

  2. It depends on the skate.  If it is a recreational skate, then very few times on the ice will do the trick.  If it is a competitive boot, then it will take quite a few hours or more to break in.

What skate did you get and is it new?  What jumps and spins are you working on - that helps to know.

  3. At least 7 days or so, usually 10 days. it depends how often you will wear them. Best of luck!!

  4. It took me around 5 days....

  5. Well it would all depend on you and the skates. If you are a good, competitive skater, then about 7 days, if you are in lower levels or just beginning about 2 weeks. Also DONT walk around the house in you skates, because skating and walking arent the smae motion, so your skates will be broken in for walking NOT skating.

  6. That will definitely help but you can also put your hard guards on and walk around the house in your skates. If your skates are heat moldable try that too (sometimes it's free, at my shop it is $15). These are also great, they protect your skate, give you warmth, and warm the leather to ease the breaking-in process. http://icelight.biz/
