It is stated in your lease. I would say 30 days minimum and that is if you have fullfilled your lease agreement. If not, then you may face penalties like being responsible for the rent until lease expiration or until the apt gets re-rented. Or there could be a specific charge for breaking the lease. Read through it, all answers should be in there. But I wouldn't give less than 30 days notice.

Much depends on the lease you signed.  The lease can demand all sorts of things including fines if not given required notice.  Your lease may have run out, but also might have had a clause in it for a month to month automatic renewal.  The lease may require 30 to 90 days of notice even though the original lease has expired.  If you never had a lease, I would want thirty days notice if I were a landlord, which i am.
