Question:

How many windmill designs are adaptable for electrical generation?

There is the regular fan type windmill. But I hear there are other types like the paddle wheel. Please elaborate?

  1. You might be look for the vertical windmill designs that are coming to the forefront, not only because they are more bird friendly, but also operate at lower winds and are sturdier in high winds.

  2. There's the one that most people are familiar with which is the "fan" type,

    then there is one with a verticle shaft where some look like a paddle wheel

    on it's side, there is also another type with a horizontal shaft which uses blades shaped like the double helix and is supposed to work especially well in city environments where, because of the buildings, winds have a tendency to go in all different directions.
