In the United States 1 in 3 women will be abused (physically, emotionally, mentally or sexually) by their partner. The statistic is based in large part on reported cases of domestic violence. However, if you ask medical personnel, therapists, and others who work with those in crisis, you will often find domestic violence at the root of their client's issues, even if they never reported to the police or anyone else.

And beyond the number of women who are abused, consider that many of those 33% of women will have children. The number of people in our country who have witnessed violence in their homes is a staggering number.

The latest research I know of regarding Japan shows 1 in 5 women will be abused in some form. However, there is much less public awareness in Japan compared to the States. As the public becomes more educated, that number will probably increase.

You can also call the National Domestic Violence Helpline (1-800-799-SAFE) for a referral to your local DV program. They can give you an idea of domestic violence in your local city/county/state.

This is unestimable because men and women won't usually tell who abused them. This is the situation in the United States and within the world. This encourages the wrongdoers to continue what they are doing. This is absolutely NOT a good thing. Peace!!!
