How many would you expect to come out above and how many would you expect to come out below average size?

Suppose you have a rock crusher. The Pebbles it makes have different sizes, but you can adjust the average size. If d is the diameter in tenths of a millimeter, some pebbles will be bigger and some smaller than the desired average do (note "o" on do is prescript).

If you sample N pebbles that come out of the crusher, how many would you expect to come out above and how many would you expect to come out below average size?

  1. the do will be close to variable depend on the number o the sample taken. If 10 samples on the experiment the average will appear some what in the middle of the variance. There will be 68 percent of certain sample fall in between do-Δ and do+Δ. MVS will have about 95 percent that will fall between do-2Δ and do+2Δ. Hope that explain.
