How many of you my fellow Yahooligans and Q & A participants, have read the essay which appeared in the Sunday Chicago Tribune, 23rd March 2008, in the special section "Confronting our racial divide?"

I am thinking on what she said. I concur and hope we get more honest and respectful introspection and dialogue here and throughout the global community on race relations.

  1. Nope didn't read it.  I quit getting that paper because there wasn't much in it that I did read.  Kind of seemed like a waste of paper.  Is it online? and is it worth reading?

  2. My take is that confronting our racial divide is a poor choice of words.

I think that those of us who do spend some brain cycles to contemplate the issues pertinent to human relations have concluded that a better methodology is acceptance, rather than confrontation.

Confrontation, to me, is an attempt to establish some sort of dominance, on one side or the other.  Instead of attempting to confront the issue, we can choose to accept it as the present state of affairs.  And, rather than dwelling on the differences and how to change one side or the other, we should focus on our similarities and our common goals and dreams for a united view of the world rather than a factional one.

First, we must accept our current state.  Then, we can begin the process of moving toward common goals which will benefit all of us.
