  1. Most people get into dental school with 4 years of college. You need to get good grades in certain required courses. These are generally in biology, math, chemistry and physics the particulars vary from one dental school to another. There will be a pre-dental advisor at most universities or colleges to guide you. A few students can get in dental school with 3 years of college; the grades have to be very good.  


  2. It may still depend on which state you are in. My first dentist never went to dental school but served an apprenticeship in order to go into practice here in California.

    He was better than the one I had a couple of years ago who went to UOP,  is a higher-up in the board but who does slip-shod work and likes to double-bill the insurance.

    So check it out, there may still be states where you don't need college. Dentistry has only recently promoted itself to a "profession". The ones we had in the Army were trained via correspondence courses I think, but they may not have had that much training.
