  1. You must mean how many "years." It takes four years of college specializing in early childhood education.

  2. Also, keep in mind that if you have a BS degree, most colleges will offer a Master's degree that may only take you 2 years to get a teaching certificate.

  3. It can take you anywhere from 4-5 years depending on the school you attend and on what your major is. If you study Liberal Arts, then four years but then you need student teaching, which would push it to 5 years.

From my understanding being a kinder teacher or a fourth grade teacher is no difference in your education. If you teach head-start or pre-school then you need to take early childhood education (ECD) classes.

  4. Depends on where you're at. In the U.S., it requires a 4 yr degree and an early childhood or elementary teaching certificate. In Canada, in most places, it also requires a teaching certificate and 4 yr degree, although there are daycares that offer kindergarten and the teacher might only have Level 3 Childcare Certification.

The best way to find out is call the school district, or wherever children are attending kindergarten where you live, and ask if they can provide contacts for getting more information on a career as a kindergarten teacher.  You could also contact a local college or university for more information.

So, the answer to your question is: it depends on where you live. Likely anywhere from 2-4 years.
