green card?

I have been legal resident for 3 years now. I get my citizenship in 2 years. If I apply for my brother, how soon will he get his green card?

My brother is currently legally in USA. If he stays legally for the whole period till I apply for him, will it affect the decision of Immigration Agency?

Thank you.

  1. never

A Permanent Resident can petition for some relatives to join him or her in the United States as immigrants. Those relatives are your spouse and children, regardless of age. See our page on "Immigration through a Family Member"

you need to be a citizen to do that

If the sponsor is a U.S. Citizen, they may petition for the following foreign national relatives to immigrate to the U.S:

          Husband or wife

Unmarried child under 21 years of age

        *

Unmarried son or daughter over 21

Married son or daughter of any age

Brother or sister, if the sponsor is at least 21 years old,

Parent, if the sponsor is at least 21 years old.

  2. Everything depends on his citizenship.  It could be as short as an 11 year wait or as long as a 23 year wait.  He's priority Family 4.  See the monthly visa bulletin for the exact wait....

  3. Unfortunately you will not be able to attain legal status for your brother. The only way to make someone legal through your own citizenship is to apply for your husband , children, mother , father. For a mother and father you have to be have had your citizenship for 5years and be able to prove financial liability for them. You can not apply for your sibiling, aunts/uncles, not even grandmothers/fathers Sorry!
