  1. 4 years undergraduate, MCAT

    4 years medical school

    about 5 years residency (you work in a hospital or clinic)

    you also have to get psychotherapy while you are in your residency

    you take the boards and then you can practice on your own.  


  2. The minimum would probably be seven. That's kind of the average. Four years for the BS, three for the medical degree. It then all depends on how long it would take you, personally, to finish each degree.

    The market for psychiatrists is fairly limited.
