  1. In Mexico Pre-med lasts only 4 months (some universities do cram pre-med which makes you do it in half as much time).

The career as such in average lasts about 6 years. 2 years basic knowledge, 2 years clinical rotations, 1 year internship and 1 year of social service. There's a university in northern Mexico where you do the working equivalent of the internship during the final 3 years between regular classes; but most universities follow the forumula I just explained.

All of that just to become a general practitioner. After graduation, you have the choice to do a residency which can last at least least 2-3 years to many, many more. I've heard of R-14's though at the most I've only seen R-7's (7 year residents, usually studying a fellowship).

  2. it all depends on what kind of doctor. i know to be a forensic pathologist, that i want to be, it is 11-12 years of schooling. 4yrs of undergrad, 4yrs residency then a year for forensics, THEN, 2yrs of resdiency in forensic pathology. plan on 10-11 years.

  3. Without taking any breaks & assuming you take 4 years to earn a BS or BA, it takes 8 years to earn a medical degree so it would take 11 years for internal/family medicine, 11 for pediatrics, 13 for general surgery, 12 for anesthesiology,11 for emergency medicine, & 11 or 12 for OB/Gyn depending on the program. If you enter an accellerated program where undergrad and medschool are combined(total of 6yr instead of 8), it would take two years less.

  4. This depends on  where you want to study , courses differ in duration in different countries .... say for example in the us u need to do your pre-med which you can get done in 4 or 5 years average and after that u need to get into med school which is of a total duration of 4 years , internship is of 1 year duration , and finally it depends on the duration of your residency , residencies vary in course-length from 3 yrs ( psychiatry) to 5 or 6 ( surgery) , so i would say a total 12 -13 years if u meant in the u.s but in other countries say india u can directly get into med school which is of 4.5 years duration , 1 year internship and 3 years of residency so it would be around 7.5 - 8 years till u become a specialized doctor , so to answer your question in brief overall it would vary from 8 years to 13 years depending on where you do your college :))

  5. 10 or 4.
