How many years does it take to be an official dentist?

I heard that dentists go through an intense long training. I want to know how many years it takes to go through the dentist class and become a official dentist.

  1. Both my parents are dentists.. after graduating highschool you go to four years of college then four years of dental school so.. eight years


  2. From leaving high school to becoming a card carrying dentist you are look at nearly 10 years.

  3. Depends on where you're from.

    I'm from the Netherlands and am a dental student. After highschool it takes 5 really intensive years of dental study to become a licensed dentist. Recently they elongated the study with an extra year. So people from highschool have six years ahead of them.

    Keep in mind that highschool in America are nowhere near the same as highschools in the Netherlands.

  4. on average 8 years, 4 years of dental school are mandatory. If your a college freshmen, sophmore or junior you can take the DAT(Dental Aptitude Test and if you pass you can go to a dental school without an undergraguate degree, therefore shortening the time) take into consideration that 90% of dental students have an undergraduate degree.
