the accepted view is 30 years. I do not know if this is based on time required before new generation can be created, although this unlikely as 15-20 years more likely. If based on life expectancy (including lost pregancys) more like 50+ years now and rising.

Depends on your intended meaning.  From birth to fertility is about 12 years, a minimum generation.  From birth to average/preferred birthing age is about 20 years.  This is the most common timeframe often used defining generations.  

From birth to empty-nest/second-life (when offspring have left to start their own family cycle) is about 40 years.  From birth to average death is 70 years (this has been standard for a long time and varies up or down depending on environment and activity).

There is no acual biological or scientific deffinition of this but poeple have until recently considered a generation to be 20 years
