  1. The Earth will be destroyed by the Sun in about 7 billion years, and the Sun itself will finally burn itself out two or three billion years later.

  2. The sun is a dieing star. Yellow dwarf I think it's called. Ya.. they talk about millions and billions of years like its nothing. When the Andromeda galaxy collides with the Milky way galaxy in 750 million years.. That will be the end of our sun, and whatever rotates around it..

  3. Well, in 4 or 5 billion years, the Sun grows to become a red giant, then contracts to form a white dwarf.  In the white dwarf stage, the Sun is about the size of the Earth.  It no longer fuses material to produce new energy, but it is tiny, and has much less surface area than it does now.  It will continue to radiate heat and light for trillions of years.  We (if we make it) or our descendants will look back on the current main sequence stage as the juvenile phase of the Sun.

We do have to move the Earth.  But the project's physics are already understood, and it appears we have time to make it happen.

  4. The theory is based on its burn about 4 to 5 billion years and then it will grow to a giant.engulfing the 3 inner planets one being ours until it colapses this will take approx 3 billion years when it colapses it will burn a few billion years more while burning the heavy elemits and then dieing out

  5. 4 to 5 billion years.

  6.   5 billion give or take a few.

  7. The sun will last about another 5 billion years in its current stage.  Then it will expand to a red giant and will probably swallow the earth.  That stage should last about 3 or 4 billion years then the sh* t will hit the fan.  I WOULD NOT want to be anywhere in the solar system when the red giant stage ends. But if you somehow survived you could still use photovoltaics at a rather lower level collecting energy from the white dwarf star our sun will become.  In that stage you have about 20 billion years.

However the bad news is the sun is brightening and in less than a billion years all surface life on earth will be extinct.  The oceans will evaporate within another billion years.  Earth will resemble Venus.  If we are still around, we better be off the Earth.  And again, make a note of this, don't be anywhere in the solar system when the sun leaves the red giant stage.  It wont be a supernova of course, but the results for anyone in the solar system would be just as fatal.

  8. The Sun will go on fusing hydrogen for about another five billion years, meaning that it is currently about halfway through its lifespan as a main sequence star- probably slightly under halfway. At the end of those five billion years, it will expand into a red giant, consuming Mercury and Venus and probably Earth. After this, the upper layers will blow away into interstellar space in a cloud of gas, and the inner part will collapse to form a white dwarf, which will go on shining (albeit with much less energy output than the Sun) for many eons more before finally cooling down and becoming a black dwarf, tens of trillions of years in the future.
