  1. Usually four years, but because of scheduling problems you may not be able to finish your course work in that time frame.

  2. four in the US

To get a masters degree, you have to go longer, but it's not necessary to become a teacher; you can always do it later.

I got my master's degree in two summers (classes were only two weeks long!)

  3. It depends on what state you live in, but typically a program offered at a university will last for four years.  Then the hard part is finding a job!!

  4. It takes a max of 4 years of college to become an elementary school teacher.

  5. This can vary slightly from state tot state, but for my education degree in Washington state

4 years of college in Elementary Education

2 years in your own classroom

3 more years to get a masters degree (1 additional year)

you have 5 years total to get your masters, but you have to be in your own classroom 2 years before you can start the program

some states only require the 4 year degree plus a Praxis 2 passing score

others you can get your masters right out of college (5 years total)

The only way to know for sure is to check with your state

  6. In Canada it requires a Masters Degree in most provinces.

    Sub pay is 170/day

Starting salary is 40,000/year and the salary cap after 11 years is about 80,000.

  7. Too many > but, it depends upon your state/country that regulates certification.  In Michigan, USA, it's 5 years which includes a semester of student teaching.

I have a teaching certificate, but became frustrated with the work at so many levels.  In my state, 75% of the teaching grads find work in other fields.  When I started out, all that was open was substitute teaching at $40-45 / day, & no benefits.  And then, the coup de gras, I learned that sub janitors were making more & had benefits.

And yes, I know, one doesn't go into teaching expecting to make big bucks.   But if you expect to eat, live indoors, & own an auto, it's going to be a struggle.

    Best wishes..

  8. It depends on your state.  Try doing a search for the department of education where you live.

In Ohio, it takes a bachelor's degree, which usually takes 4 years.  Then once you start teaching, you have 7 years to earn your master's degree, which takes about 2 years.  I am just finishing mine (online during the school year and several classes during the summer.)  Honestly, you will have to love your job and what you do, or else it isn't worth it.  It costs a lot to go to college/student loans, and teaching doesn't pay much at all for having 6 years of college.

    Good luck.

  9. in California its a matter of how long it takes you to complete.  The minimum requirement is a Bachelors (some it takes 3 years, the "standard" is 4, for others it may be more...depends on your pace), after you receive your "four year" degree you need to complete a teacher preperation program...these are usually a year long.  Then you can start teaching, but the final clear credential process is not over.  After you land your first job you will need to do 2 years of a program called Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment.  This is provided by the district you work for, your county, and the state.

In summary, the usual time it takes to become a teacher (actually be able to have a classroom of your own) is around 5 years.  I have a friend that did it in 4, and personally, it took me 6.
