  1. All doctors endure 2-6 years of residency, depending on their specialty.


  2. General surgery is 5 years, you can specialize after that. For instance, trauma surgery is an extra year after general, pediatric surgery is 2 years of research followed by 2 years of residency (after the 5 initial years mind you). I assume that trauma surgery is what you meant by 'trauma doctor'. To specialize in Emergency medicine, I believe it is 4 years in the US, however I couldn't find a source on that.

    Keep in mind that this is all after your first 4 years of medical school, making trauma surgery a 10-year program.
