  1. I suggest you check with a four year institute in your area for the exact class requirements.  To get a degree in Special Education, it takes the same amount of time as it would to get a degree to teach Regular Education.  4 years!  That is, if you pass all classes, take a full course load and don't take a semester off.  Good Luck

  2. A four year university is your best bet (or two years if you have already done undergrad work).  Some states also have a special certification program geared towards non traditional college age people.  I don't know what's involved in that but it takes a shorter period of time.

  3. It depends which state you go to college in.

Because of 'No Child Left Behind' different states have changed what it takes to be a teacher to make the standards higher.

While it is still possible to get in just the right credits at many schools if you go the entire four years and don't take any classes 'just for fun', most colleges are seeing teachers take at least one extra semester to graduate (for their student teaching), but often an entire extra year due to additional classes for specialties or because they were interested in them but they were not in their major.

  4. It take 4 years of college and a change of goverment toward speical Ed.

  5. You have to have a four year degree from an accrediated school, (some states has certain "specializtions" in ky they have communication disorders SLP, learning/behavior disorders, moderate-severe disabilities, hearing impaired, and visual impaired certifications) pass a certifying state exam. Some states require you to obtain a masters within so many years or you loose your certification.

There are other specializtion fiels you can do besides the ones i listed earlier, but many states dont certify them as specializtions.

You can also do orientation and mobility, autism, behavior analysis, early intervention, etc.

Many states now allow you get get an alternative certification if you already have an undergrad degree... This is a masters that normally 36-40some hours depending on your background on the school. But once you are admitted into this, most schools will hire you. Although in this state they are required to hire a fully certified teacher over a person that is enrolled in an alternative cert program.

THe praxis test, at least in all the states that i know of required it once you graduate.. you cant do it during the junior year as someone said.

  6. None, you're qualified already if you don't have some sort of mental retardation.

  7. It should take you 4 years - You should do both regular ed and Special Ed. This will help with getting a job.  Most schools like the double major since they are moving towards placing special ed children in regular classes.

Also you need to take your praxis test, these are test that certify you as a teacher.  These are done

during your 4 years of college usally your junior year
